Incredible gold and black lacquer offering table.  This museum quality piece is stunning.  Dating to the late 18^th century, the contemporary look and feel of this piece reminds one just how timeless the best of Japanese design truly is.  This table was originally made for a special occasion, like a wedding, and clearly for a very high-class person.  The decoration technique is called makie/chinkin, and exhibits all the skill of the lacquer’s art. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maki-e  This piece is in excellent condition.
