Product Description

A finely made Japanese Kimekomi clay doll dated early Showa ( 1920’s - 1940’s ). Kimekomi dolls were originally created in 1700’s . These dolls were created individually by hand . One of the many steps of making the doll involves carving narrow grooves on the doll’s body and insert the edge of the silk cloth into the groove , which requires very high skills.  This doll is called “ Saruwaka “ , (literally "monkey-young") and is the  name of a role in Kabuki and Kyogen and they play comic roles . Kabuki : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kabuki, Kyogen :  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ky%C5%8Dgen  The doll is decorated with many different traditional patterns and it dances on the black lacquer stand. It comes in an original wooden box signed by the artist. Because it was stored in the box, it is in a good condition. It would be such a unique conversational center piece for your home.
