This  unique Japanese antique chest is from the Late Meiji period (1890's-1910's). The wood used in this tansu is Cyprress.). The Choba Tansu was used by merchants and was traditionally used in shops to impress customers. These chests display elaborate metal hardware that is meant to make it look important and will catch the eye of the customer as well as your house guests!
