This Japanese antique Tansu piece is from the Late Meiji period (1890's-1910's). The woods used in this tansu are Keyaki and Sugi (Cedar). There are many variations on the Isho Tansu. The typical construction is a two section chest with four drawers and often a smaller lockable compartment with smaller internal drawers. The many drawers of this piece make it a great edition to your bedroom as a clothing chest.Nihonmatsu is name of city in Fukushima prifecture.This Tansu is made in Nihonmatsu city, ofen gifted from parent to brighd as wedding gift.
