This japanese antique Tansu  is from the late Showa period (1940's-present). The woods used in this tansu are Kaki (Persimmon) and Kiri (Paulownia). Persimmon wood is a hard wood that is quite stunning especially when there is a strong contrast between the dark and gold colors of the grain. Traditionally all clothing were folded and placed in drawers before the influence of the west. Therefore, many Clothing Chests are made mostly of drawers. The many drawers of this piece make it a great edition to your bedroom as a clothing chest.
