Product Description

This unique Small Chest, Ko Dansu, is from the Late Showa period (1940's-present). The combination of woods for this tansu is Sugi (Cedar) and Kaki (Persimmon). Because Cedar wood is lightweight, durable, and does not bend or crack easily, it is used for the backing and drawers of many tansu. Persimmon wood is a hard wood that is quite stunning especially when there is a strong contrast between the dark and gold colors of the grain. The Ko dansu is a very versatile chest. In Japan it had many different uses depending on style, design, or wood type. In a small hallway, this chest can add interest and storage without taking up any needed room.
