Product Description

This is an vintage Japanese unusual Okidoko from early Showa period (1920s-1940's) . An early type of removable alcove formed by placing a simple long low storage chest in the corner of a room and hanging a scroll of calligraphy above it on the wall. A flower arranged in an Ikebana vase was also often added.

It was constructed of Zelkova (Keyaki), Horse Chestnut (Tochinoki), and Cryptomeria (Suginoki) woods. This is the height of the wood on both sides rather than the height of the bench area.
