Product Description

This is an authentic Japanese Oki Mizuya tansu.  This is a chest specifically used in Chado for the preparation as well as the conclusion of the tea ceremony.

It was made of Japanese Cypress wood (known as Hinoki) and some plywood.   Behind the sliding doors hides a spacious interior where the tea accoutrements would be stored.  There are wood hooks for hanging the water scoop called Hishaku and a drainage floor protected by a copper lined drawer where washed and rinsed pottery can be dried.
