Product Description

This is a vintage Japanese 2 section tea chest called Cha Tansu.  It was constructed out of Persimmon, Horse Chestnut and Paulownia woods and the bronze fittings were all hand made.  It has original beveled glass on the two large sliding display doors.

The tea chest was typically used in a Japanese home in the room similar to the western living room.  It was used to keep items for casual tea service as well as storage for an assortment of items for the home.  The display area was designed to showcase seasonal or holiday decorative accents such as flower arrangements for the change of season or dolls for Boy's (Children's) Day or Girl's Day festivals.
